Description

Special Need: Clean Up Lake Union after the 4th of July! Join Puget Soundkeeper on our kayak patrol as we monitor pollution and prevent debris from contaminating our waterways! Sadly, after the 4th of July celebrations, Lake Union is often left in a sorry state, including a lot of firework debris. While on patrol, we keep an eye out for abnormal discharges and oil slicks while removing debris that accumulates in the waters of Lake Union. Volunteers will be outfitted in double kayaks and paddle to a designated area of Lake Union to monitor water pollution and remove trash. Kayaks are generously provided free of charge by the Northwest Outdoor Center. If you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms such as fever, nausea, shortness of breath, sore throat, body aches, or fatigue we ask that you stay home. No prior kayaking experience is needed and all equipment is provided (boats, paddles, PFDs, spray skirts and equipment for cleaning up trash). If you have your own life vest you want to wear we encourage you to bring it! Participants must dress for the weather and expect to get a little wet. We are asking everyone to limit their personal belongings and if driving to the site to keep belongings in your car. There is limited storage space at the Northwest Outdoor Center. A safety overview will be delivered before heading out which will include new COVID-19 protocols. Time: 11:00am – 1:00pm Location: Northwest Outdoor Center (NWOC) – 2100 Westlake Ave N #1, Seattle, WA 98109
