Exceptions to these age-specific groupings can be made with instructor approval. Please contact us if you have any questions; We would be happy to talk about your rider and make the best placement possible. Instructor: Mike Friedman- 2008 Olympian and Former professional cyclist. 2nd instructor: TBD Intermediate Rider / Proficient Rider: Off Site Riding Class This is a riding class. The first day will be primarily drills to make sure we can ride as a group. Exercises and drills are then determined individually based on each indivdual level and need within the group environment. For the remainder of the week, we will ride between 7 to 12+ miles each day in a non-competitive, supportive group ride. We will explore the Boulder trail network (paved/dirt) and bike-friendly roads as we ride to planned destinations. During these rides, I will specifically point out areas that riders need to be thinking about as an active bike rider using the trail networks. They are driving a vehicle, and as such need to not only be confident bike riders but also aware of what to think about, look for, react to and be prepared for. Ridng a bicycle safely goes far beyond pedaling and riding on the trail. We cover a lot in this class while also having fun. We may visit places like Valmont Bike Park- but, valmont isn't the end all be all...threre are so many amazing trails, parks, streams, and destinations to go to. Along the way, I will address trail etiquette, rider technique, road safety, rider safety, and bicycle safety. They will learn how to change a flat, navigate controlled traffic patterns and more. Terrain will vary. Some trails will be dirt, a lot of it on paved trails through Boulder, with nothing too extreme. We go pretty far and are exposed to a variety of situations that require the students to be confident riders and become more confident throughout the week. PREREQUISITES: In order to take part in this riding class, every student must start the week confidently able to: Turn/steer – be able to ride in a straight, controlled line or follow a path Stop – know how to stop, know when to stop, anticipate stopping so not every stop is an emergency stop Control speed – ability to control speed in various terrain changes or within group. Example: Safely ride downhill able to stop at end if needed Have Stamina! Class is 3 hours a day, every day and we are active. -If your child is hesitant joining in this group, but you feel they are capable, tell them not to stress. I keep it fun. Class Min: 5 Kids Class Max: 15 Kids What KIDS should bring to camp: Bike -with gears in good working order.
