BOSTON — Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the local doctor who recently rose to director of the Centers of Disease Control, will throw out the first pitch at Saturday's Red Sox game. The Red Sox play at Fenway Park against the Miami Marlins at 4:10 p.m. The forecast is a wet one, but if there are no major delays, it will be the first major sports event in Massachusetts in front of a full-capacity crowd since March 2020. The Bruins are scheduled for a playoff game against the New York Islanders at TD Garden at 8 p.m. Saturday marks the state's lifting of most COVID-19 restrictions, including gathering and capacity limits. The indoor mask mandate is also being lifted, but the Red Sox are asking unvaccinated fans to continue wearing face coverings at the ballpark. Walenskey, from Peabody, was the Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital and taught at Harvard before President Biden tapped her to lead the CDC.
