STAMFORD, CT — The Stamford Police Department is asking for the public's help to identify a man they said robbed a convenience store at knifepoint on the West side of the city on Wednesday. At around 2:27 p.m. on May 26, according to police, a man armed with a long, thin knife walked into Nikita's Value Mart, located at 455 W. Main St., and approached a lone clerk at the register. "He demanded the money and wanted to know where the large bills were," said SPD Sgt. Paul Guzda. "At that point, he moved the cashier out of the way with the threat of the knife, went behind the counter to the register and removed all the cash." Guzda said it's unclear how much money the man was able to nab. Guzda said that surveillance footage from the area showed the man arriving on foot and leaving on foot. When he left, he headed in an easterly direction towards the intersection of West Main and Diaz Street. The man was described as being hispanic and having a stocky build, and police believe he's in his mid-to-late 20's and no more than 30 years old. He was wearing a surgical-type face-mask, with a dark hooded sweatshirt and a gray vest on top, and dark pants. Police are checking other surveillance cameras in the area. If anyone has information, they're asked to contact the Stamford Police Department at 203-977-4421.
