JOLIET, IL — A seven-month Joliet Police Department criminal investigation has led to the arrest of 56-year-old Jose Luis Guzman-Aguilera on two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. Police say the Joliet man had sexual contact with two visiting family members ages 2 and 5 last October.
"Joliet Police Department Detectives conducted an extensive investigation into this case in which it was determined that a sexual assault had occurred, and Guzman-Aguilera was identified as the suspect," Friday's news release stated.
On Wednesday, Joliet detectives obtained a felony warrant to arrest Guzman-Aguilera and on Thursday Joliet police found him at his place of employment in Frankfort and took him into custody.
Guzman-Aguilera lives in the unit block of Joliet's Dwight Avenue. His bail has been set at $1 million by Will County Judge Fred Harvey.
"The Joliet Police Department will always vigorously pursue those criminals that prey upon children," Joliet's new chief of police Dawn Malec said in the news release announcing the arrest of the 56-year-old Joliet man. "Heinous acts such as these will never be tolerated in this city. This is another example of the fine work of the men and women of the Joliet Police Department. Lastly, I wanted to express my gratitude to the Will County Children's Advocacy Center for their partnership and for providing a voice to our most vulnerable victims."
