NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents between May 21 and May 27, 2021. Saturday, May 22 Around 10:30 p.m., police were called to Fountain Farm Lane and Nathan Court for a hit and run traffic crash. Upon arrival, police learned there had been a hit and run crash at the intersection of the Newtown Bypass and Newtown Gate Drive, in which the driver of the striking vehicle fled the scene. The other vehicle and a witness followed the striking vehicle to the intersection of Fountain Farm Lane and Nathan Court, where they all waited for the police. The driver of the striking vehicle was investigated and subsequently placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. The striking driver was arraigned and processed, with bail set at $20,000. A passenger in the struck vehicle was transported to St. Mary Medical Center for evaluation. Sunday, May 23 Around 2 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a blue Scion for a vehicle code violation on the Newtown Bypass near Buck Road. Upon contact with the driver, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The driver was unable to satisfactorily perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Wednesday, May 26 Around 1:55 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a green Subaru Forrester for a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Buck Road. Upon contact with the occupants, the officer observed narcotics paraphernalia in plain view and could smell the odor of marijuana. The driver of the vehicle consented to a search of the vehicle, during which time the officer discovered suspected narcotics and various paraphernalia, including suspected methamphetamine. The driver of the vehicle was advised of pending charges based on the results of further lab testing.
