ELMHURST, IL — Some Elmhurst residents say they have been going days at a time without mail being delivered. The post office blames the pandemic.
In the last few days, residents have posted on Patch about mail delivery issues. The problems have been reported in the 100 block of Myrtle Avenue, 900 block of Spring Road and 100 block of Oak Street, among others.
A resident in the 100 block of Myrtle said she has gone four days without mail.
"In the past year, I have not gotten three greeting cards, ever; last week, we had a significant tax refund check not come for days," she wrote on Patch. "Thank GOD a neighbor who received it on accident delivered it to us... This is very frustrating and an ongoing problem."
Tim Norman, a Chicago-based spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service, told Patch in an email that mail service is "ongoing" in Elmhurst. But he indicated the post office is facing challenges.
"We are flexing our available resources to match the workload created by the impacts of the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic," Norman said. "We appreciate the patience of our customers and the efforts of employees as conditions change on a day-to-day basis."
He asked Patch for the blocks in Elmhurst that are lacking service, so he could look into specific problems. Patch provided the information Thursday, but had not heard back as of Friday morning.
Elmhurst also experienced mail delivery issues in February.
