The Illinois Secretary of State begins the Mandatory Insurance Electronic Verification Program June 1st 2021. The Secretary of State's has required insurance companies doing business in Illinois to upload a list of insured vehicles electronically to a third party database called ILIVS.  The state will begin to match their database of of registered vehicles to insurance company database of insured vehicles. Starting July 1st, the state will begin mailing out letters of insurance verification to owners of vehicles, that did not result in a match, requesting them to prove insurance coverage with a deadline to submit.  Failure to submit insurance documents will result in a license plate suspension.
