Join Winchester Community Music School and percussion faculty member Sylvie Zakarian for a rhythm trip around the world! This half-day summer program, June 21-25, will use handheld and larger percussion instruments to explore different cultures and styles of music. Start with basic rhythms and build your rhythm vocabulary; gain hands-on experience with a range of instruments (from tiny to enormous); play along with recorded materials that reflect a variety of ethnic traditions; and best of all, make some noise! No previous experience required. This program will be held in person at WCMS, with at least half of each day's activities held outdoors (weather permitting) and the remainder in Nichols Hall with some of our fabulous percussion instruments: marimba, xylophone, timpani, snare drums, and hand drums.
