Come enjoy an afternoon bowl of traditional Japanese matcha - leave with a calm and centered mind.
What does it mean to be fully present? The Japanese have a phrase called "Ichi-e go ichi-e", meaning "one moment, one time." In this hour workshop, guests will come to an understanding of how the unrefined beauty of the tea room is all working to bring your attention to where you are right now - living, breathing in this beautiful moment.
AGENDA:
1. Open with a brief history and philosophy of chanoyu, discuss Japanese zen principles like 'wabi-sabi' and 'shoshin'
2. Receive instruction on tea room etiquette as a guest.
3. Follow with a meditation exercise to bring awareness to our senses
4. Experience a traditional usucha (thin tea) ceremony together.
All guests will receive a traditional Japanese sweet, a bowl of matcha, and exclusive instruction on being a guest in the tea room. The host asks that you bring socks to wear on the tatami mats. This experience is limited to 15 participants.
