Description
A Women's Introduction to Fly Fishing for Steelhead sponsored by FFi Women Connect/EWC and TU Women NY. Women's Introduction to Fly Fishing for Steelhead.Sunday, Nov 13, 2021, 8am-5pm, Salmon River, Altmar, NYAre you a female angler who wants to learn how to fly fish for steelhead or are you looking to improve your steelhead fly fishing skills? If so, join FFi Women Connect/Eastern Waters and TU Women of NY for a fun and educational day on the Salmon River in pursuit of these amazing fish. Instruction and on-stream support will be provided by experienced female guides and anglers. The program officially begins Sunday morning with breakfast (included) at the Tailwater Lodge in Altmar, NY. After a brief orientation we will head to the river for on-stream instruction. The primary technique you will be learning is nymphing for steelhead but those anglers with some spey casting basics under their belt can also work on swing techniques. We will split up into groups of 4 (4 anglers per guide/instructor) according to experience level, mobility, and preferred fly fishing technique and spend the rest of the day fishing. Your guide/instructor will be with you throughout the day to offer support, additional instruction, and to hopefully net/tail your steelhead :). This trip can be done as a day trip for anglers who live nearby or as an overnight trip for those coming from further afield. We have several double Queen rooms reserved at the Tailwater Lodge for Saturday night and you'll have the option of sharing with another female angler. Please specify during registration whether you want this option. Rooms at the Tailwater on Saturday night cost $275.58 (including all taxes). Other lodging options are available in town but it's recommended that you book early. Some anglers might also consider staying overnight Sunday and fishing with a guide the following day (optional). We can recommend local guides, but again, we highly recommend you book as early as possible. For those arriving on Saturday, we will meet for dinner that evening at the Tailwater Lodge. Limited to 12 women anglers who are members of either Fly Fishers International or Trout Unlimited. Basic fly fishing skills are required but no previous steelhead fishing experience is necessary. Once the Introductory course is filled, we will open the trip up to experienced women anglers who will be fishing independently. Trip cost includes breakfast at the Tailwater Lodge Sunday morning. Lodging and all other meals are the angler's responsibility. You will receive a list of recommended gear and clothing after registration but typically a 7- or 8-weight rod and reel with good drag are the norm along with waders and studded rubber boots.
