Cook Your Best Burger & Win $1000! Looking for an opportunity to showcase your awesome burger grilling skills? Say no more! This year, at the 37th Annual Jacksonville Tomato Festival, Hassell Cattle Company is hosting the Hassell Wagyu Burger Challenge! $100 entry fee per team with a 25 team limit. First place wins $1000 cash, second place a $100 Hassell Gift Card, and third place will win a $50 Hassell Gift Card. Additionally, with Jacksonville, TX being the Tomato capital of the world, we will have a special prize for most unique way to use a tomato on a burger. Rules: 2 lbs of Hassell Cattle Company Wagyu ground beef (cooks are required to use this beef but not required to use all 2 lbs.) Ground beef for challenge will be supplied. In preparation for the event, teams can purchase additional HCC ground beef at Break'n'Bread: 1009 S Jackson St STE 100, Jacksonville, TX 75766Cooks must make 2 burgers to turn in.Patties cannot be more than 8 oz. each. We want a burger, not a meatloaf.Burgers can be cooked over any fire source. No electricity will be available!Burgers must be placed on a bun 4 – 6” in diameter.Burgers must fit in the turn-in container when closed.Cooks must provide their own ingredients for entry (ie. vegetables, sauces, bacon or anything else to make a burger unique).Cooks will be allowed to set up a 10x10 tent.Cooks must wear food safety gloves when handling food. Gloves must be changed often. When handling raw meat, please change gloves to not contaminate food.Teams will be given a card to fill out which will include the name of your burger and a brief description. Judging will be blind judging. Each team will turn in two burgers. 1st burger will be left uncut and will be judged on the following: Difficulty (5-10 points) – How difficult was it to make the burger? Just meat and bread will score lower than a burger with creativity. Execution (5-10 points) – How well did the team execute the burger described on their card?Appearance (5-10 points) – How appealing does the burger look?2nd burger will be cut into ¼ and will be judged on the following: Dunness (5-10 points) – is center pink.Taste (5-10 points) – score will be 5-10 with a decimal pointSchedule: 9:30 AM – Cook's Meeting: We will go over rules and give each team 2 lbs of HCC Wagyu ground beef.12:30 - 1:00 PM – Burger Turn-In2:30 PM – Awards at main stage Judges: Interested in judging this event? Stop by the Hassell Cattle Challenge area to sign up, across from the Jacksonville Economic Development building. We will have a lottery drawing to choose judges. Registration entry closes at 11 AM. Judges meeting at 11:30 includes training on how to judge event. Judging is from 12:30 to 1:30pm.
