Join us to celebrate the community opening for the new exhibition titled Choose Your Weapon: Views from the Front Lines of the War for Black Lives by E. Mackey. Art activations include live art demonstrations, art workshops, live screen printing and the Oh Show. The Gantt Center will have a full day of programming and will be free to the public all day on Saturday, June 5th. We are open from 10 am until 6 pm. Mask are strongly encouraged.
Photography transformed lived experiences into evidence of foundational racism in the United States while capturing jovial moments lived by Black Americans despite social infractions.
E. Mackey’s photographs capture the plethora of layered emotions that pulsed throughout Black Lives Matter (BLM) demonstrations. From rage and disbelief to camaraderie and empathy, the artworks exhibited in Choose Your Weapon evoke the sense of agency expressed by individuals of differing backgrounds across the nation.
