Description
Press release from the Town of Needham:
May 26, 2021
The City of Newton is hosting a community engagement session for the Christina Street Bridge on Wednesday, May 26 from 5pm to 7pm via Zoom.
The project will provide an assessment of reuse or replacement of the Christina Street rail bridge for use as a fully accessible, shared-use bicycle and pedestrian connection between Newton and Needham. Once structural and geometric assessments are completed by Newton's vendor VHB, Inc., design scenarios will be developed for rehabilitating the existing bridge, demolishing the existing bridge and reconstructing in place, and constructing a new bridge in a new alignment. The project will the lay the foundation for discussions about the construction of a fully accessible, shared-use path connection.
Once all feedback has been received from this meeting, City of Newton staff, and Town of Needham staff, VHB will develop conceptual plans for the preferred option prior to our 6/30/21 deadline. We hope you can join us!
