Yonkers Man Arrested For Starving His Dog: SPCA

YONKERS, NY — The SPCA of Westchester's Humane Law Enforcement Unit (HLE) has arrested and charged Uriah Joseph of Yonkers with animal cruelty. Joseph is being charged with not providing adequate food, water and veterinary care for an extended period to his dog, officials with the SPCA report. The young pitbull, now renamed Brownie, is being treated for health consequences resulting from the neglect. SPCA HLE officers were alerted when the dog was discovered inside a Yonkers apartment. The pit bull was found to be emaciated, dehydrated and in a state of obvious neglect. A veterinary examination found that Brownie's emaciation was consistent with starvation, according to the SPCA of Westchester. His ribs, hip and pelvic bones were visibly prominent. Those treating the animal say Brownie was denied necessary food and water resulting in the loss of over 40 percent of his body weight. If left in this state, his condition would have worsened and the dog would have likely died. Brownie is said to be "safe" and recovering from the ordeal.
