Fire Consumes New Rochelle Home, Firefighter Injured

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — It took nearly three hours to bring a fire at an unoccupied house on Faneuil Place in the city under control. A firefighter was injured battling the three-alarm fire which consumed the structure on Wednesday morning. The injured firefighter was treated and released from the hospital, according to New Rochelle Fire Department Chief Andrew Sandor. The second floor of the house, which was under renovation, collapsed as fire crews worked to contain the fire. "There was major fire damage on the inside," Sandor said. "That's part of why it took so long to contain." Dispatchers received an initial call about the fire at 4:31 a.m. The first units to respond to the scene soon requested a second alarm. The three-alarm fire required additional equipment and resources before the flames were eventually brought under control after 7 a.m. this morning. Neighbors report that the home has been unoccupied for several months, but contracting crews have been working at the address. According to real estate records, the property most recently changed hands in December of 2019.
