Press release from the New Castle County Government: May 27, 2021 New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer and General Manager of New Castle County Public Works Tracy Surles have announced the Clean Stream Champion Art Contest will run again in 2021. The contest opened May 24th and encourages kids in New Castle County (below the age of 18) to create awareness through art around one of the five Clean Stream Champion topics: "I encourage all of our young County artists to get in touch with their creative sides and help create awareness for a number of Clean Stream topics," said County Executive Meyer. "I am always impressed with the talents and creativity of our budding artists and I wish them all good luck!" Winning freehand artists, will be up for some great prizes as well. New Castle County Department of Public Works staff will judge the entries and award prizes as follows: Artists must have their guardians upload their entry to https://www.cleanstreamchampion.org/Art-Contest/ on or before June 11, 2021. The Clean Stream Champion program is part of GreeNCC, County Executive Matt Meyer's environmental initiative, which entails leading by example and educating the public about environmentally green practices. New Castle County's Department of Public Works maintains the state's largest wastewater treatment system with more than 1,800 miles of sanitary sewer lines that serve 122,000 customers and takes in more than 50 million gallons each day. Additionally, the department is responsible for New Castle County's stormwater systems and the inspection of over 2,400 Stormwater Management Facilities; development and upkeep of parks and open space; the design, construction, and maintenance of public libraries and other government buildings; and the management and maintenance of all county-owned vehicles and equipment.
