SANTA MONICA, CA — A fire broke out at an apartment in Santa Monica Thursday afternoon, fire officials said.
The fire was reported about 3:16 p.m. in the 2200 Block of 5th Street, near Pacific Street, according to the Santa Monica Fire Department. It was knocked down by 3:24 p.m.
It's unclear what caused the fire. No injuries were immediately reported.
Firefighters were beginning salvage operations at the site, officials said.
People were urged to avoid the area and expect traffic delays. Santa Monica police were directing traffic in the area.
