SANTA CRUZ, CA — A 29-year-old Santa Cruz County man was killed early Thursday morning after he was pinned under his vehicle after it went airborne after striking a curb, a tree and two parked cars, police said. Police have not identified the driver pending the notification of his family. The man was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which took place at 1:11 a.m., the Santa Cruz Police Department said. The accident took place in the 1200 block of Seabright Avenue and when officers arrived, they found the man pinned underneath his Mercedes sedan. The man was cut out of his vehicle by Santa Cruz firefighters but was already dead, police said. An initial investigation shows that the car was traveling at a high rate of speed while moving northbound on Seabright Avenue. The driver failed to negotiate a curve to the left at Windham, which caused the vehicle to strike the curb, police said. The car then went airborne, struck a tree, and also hit two parked cars before it landed back on its wheels with the driver pinned underneath the vehicle. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to contact the Santa Cruz Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit and Sgt. Michael Hedley at (831) 420-5777 ext. 4834.
