ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a woman's threatening ex-client, a man asleep in an alley, a gift card scam, drug possession, fugitives and driving violations. Here is information from the latest reports: Threatening former client A person at a business at 110 E. Schiller St. told police she received a threatening voicemail from a former client and was concerned for her safety. She received the message about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. An officer was unable to reach the suspect by phone. Asleep in alley Andrew Flowers, 24, of Panorama, California, was cited about 1:30 p.m. Monday at York and Schiller on a charge of disorderly conduct. He was released on bond. According to a police report, Flowers was sleeping in an alley. He was intoxicated and had a thermos containing alcohol. Gift card scam A resident in the 300 block of Highland Avenue received an email from a person who posed as a friend of the resident. The suspect asked the resident to purchase Google Play gift cards for him. The victim bought the cards and provided the suspect with the security information. The incident was reported Wednesday. Drug possession Madelyn Laboy, 34, of Cicero, was arrested about 11:30 p.m. Monday at York and North on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, DUI (drugs), driving with a suspended license, obstructing identification and illegal stopping or standing in the roadway. She was taken to the DuPage County Jail. Jacking up car A student walked away from Churchville Middle School, 155 Victory Parkway, after having a disciplinary hearing about 11 a.m. Monday. He was later found, his mother arrived, and he was taken back to school. Intoxicated and in traffic Police responded to a report of an intoxicated person who was walking into oncoming traffic about 6 p.m. Monday near Spring and Butterfield. The person was unable to answer officers' questions and relinquished a glass jar with a white powder that tested positive for a controlled substance. Medics took the person to the hospital. Charges are pending lab results. Disturbance A person in a house in the 600 block of West Armitage Avenue became upset and threw items around about 8:30 p.m. Monday. The person agreed to remain calm for the rest of the night. Harassing text messages A student at Bryan Middle School, 111 W. Butterfield Road, told police Tuesday she was receiving harassing text messages. An officer spoke with the suspect, who admitted to texting the victim and apologized. The victim's parents wanted the incident documented as a matter of record. Shoplifting A man concealed products in his jacket and left without paying for them about 8 a.m. Wednesday at Mariano's, 678 N. York St. Fugitives An officer saw a stolen car about 10 p.m. Tuesday at North and Route 83. The officer followed the driver, who was making evasive maneuvers, weaving through traffic and speeding. The officer was unable to stop the man.An officer stopped a driver for failure to wear a seat belt and failure to signal when required about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at North and Addison. The driver sped away. The suspect had a revoked driver's license and five active warrants for his arrest. Charges are pending. An officer spotted a stolen car speeding about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday near North and Emroy. The officer tried to pull over the car, but the driver would not stop. The vehicle was reported stolen in Joliet. Driving violations Carol L. Milnes, 62, of Bensenville, was cited about 1 p.m. Tuesday at York and Industrial on charges of driving with a suspended license and no seat belt. She was released on bond. Calvin Taylor Jr., 19, of Maywood, was arrested about 5 p.m. Tuesday at North and Melrose on a DuPage County Sheriff's Office warrant and a charge of failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. He was released on bond. Perla Vargas, 18, of Addison, was cited about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of West North Avenue on charges of no valid driver's license and failure to yield from a private drive. She was released on bond. Denaji L. Estes, 23, of Streamwood, was arrested about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of West Lake on a Kane County Sheriff's Office warrant and charges of possession of marijuana by a driver and speeding. The suspect was released on bond.Oscar Garcia, 31, of Chicago, was cited about 10 a.m. Monday at York and North End on charges of driving with a suspended license, unlawful possession of marijuana by a driver, illegal transportation of alcohol and no front license plate. He was released on bond. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt.
