WOODBURY, MN— A Woodbury woman was charged with two counts of assault and one count of attempted murder after police alleged she assaulted two children, according to the criminal complaint filed against her in Minnesota's 10th Judicial District Court.
If found guilty, Sadiyo Ibrahim Mohamed could face up to 67 years in prison and/or fines of up to $44,000, officials said.
Officers arrived at Lake View Alcove at 12:45 Wednesday morning and saw Mohamed chasing a boy, officials said.
Mohamed was arrested and had a "minor altercation" with officers after slipping out of her handcuffs, officials said.
After getting Mohamed back in handcuffs, officers heard people screaming about a dead baby, and found a girl, between 5-6 years old, laying in the street unresponsive, officials said. The girl had multiple lacerations and abrasions on both sides of her face and a wound on the back of her head, officials said.
Both children were taken to Regions Hospital by Woodbury EMS, officials said.
According to police, Mohamed told them she suffers from a mental illness and had not been taking her medication for a couple of months.
At the hospital, the boy described Mohamed's weapon as a gray cylinder of some kind, but didn't know what it was made of, officials said.
The girl was determined to have a skull fracture, brain bleed, a lacerated liver, and broken ribs, and she was covered in cuts and bruises, officials said.
