Description

CHARLOTTE, NC — One person was shot and left with life-threatening injuries during an officer-involved shooting in north Charlotte Thursday. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said the midday shooting in the 4300 block of Old Interstate Road occurred after officers attempted to speak with a person that matched the description of a recent shooting and armed robbery suspect. The person ran from officers and "during the foot pursuit, the subject discharged a firearm at officers," CMPD said. No officers were injured in the incident. "The officers perceived a lethal threat and one officer fired a service weapon, striking the subject," who was transported to an area hospital for treatment, CMPD said. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation into the incident, as has CMPD's Internal Affairs Bureau per standard procedure in any officer involved shooting. "The officers will be place on paid administrative leave, which is standard policy whenever an officer discharges a service weapon," CMPD said.
