Community rally to Cancel the Rent Othello Park (4351 South Othello Street, Seattle, WA 98118) June 5th, 2021, at 12:00 pm Cancel the Rent Coalition is mobilizing to rally and march in Othello Park. As the economy continues to reopen, thousands of Washington residents face skyrocketing rents, looming evictions, rental and mortgage debt, unemployment, and homelessness. The global impact of coronavirus has drastically accelerated the already urgent housing crisis in the U.S This disproportionately burdens Black people, Indigenous people, and communities of color as well as people with disabilities, women and children. Cancel the Rent Coalition formed in response to this urgent emergency for many King County residents. This Coalition is made up of the following organizations: Washington Poor People's Campaign; Democratic Socialists of America, Seattle; Freedom Socialist Party; Party for Socialism and Liberation; Radical Women; Seattle Revolutionary Socialists; Tenants Union; Transit Riders Union; Women's Housing Equality and Enhancement League (WHEEL). Pandemic profiteers like Kroger and Amazon have made and will continue to make billions off of working class citizens during the crisis. In contrast, the current legislature has only doled out breadcrumbs to average people. This is with full knowledge that this will do very little to stop the flood of evictions that will come soon after the local, state, and federal eviction moratoriums expire, which is now tentatively set for June 31st, 2021. We are demanding the following: Mortgage & rent debt relief! - Extend Eviction Moratorium! - Housing for All! - Tax the Rich! - Rent Control Now! - Cancel the Rent!
