Description

This is a low-stress way to get some feedback on your photographs. Everyone will participate in this positive, powerful photo critique! Strong communities get better together, so join us for a morning of conversation centered around helping each other improve our photography. This is a low-pressure meetup designed to get us talking about our photography in new ways, centered on community critique. This event will be hosted by photography instructor Jerred Zegelis. Jerred has been using this format with his students for the past 18 years and has found it a powerful way for a group of photographers to improve their skills. Attend this event and bring along 2-3 images that you’d like to share with the community of photographers. It’s up to you on what images you want to share: the ones you’re the proudest of, the ones you think need some work, or a mix of the two. We will go through the process together, focusing on the following steps: 1: Slow down and notice the details – in a work of art, every detail matters, and this is no different in photography. We slow down together and talk briefly about the individual details of the photograph. You’ll be surprised at what you’ll notice when we slow down and pay attention. 2: Discuss Technique: during this step we talk about the elements brought to the situation by the photographer that might make this photograph unique. Did they add a vignette? What kind of lens might have been used. A slow or fast shutter speed? Depth of field control? 3: Intent: What was the artist trying to say? What were they trying to depict? It can be as simple as saying “the artist was trying to depict the beauty found in a flower” to more complex intentions. 4: Feedback: Based on the intent, how successful is the photograph? These comments are always subjective, but powerful when framed with the intent of improving TOGETHER. Topics Covered: We'll look at the importance of the critique process in improving our photography. We will study the four steps to our critique process and apply them to our in-class critiques. We will focus on positivity and getting better as photographers and as a group. Who Should Take This Class? This is for photographers at any level who wants to partake in a community photo critique. Required Materials - Bring 2-3 photos on an Apple product that can connect to our classroom Apple TV. Alternatively, you can email the instructor your photos or put them on a flash/hard drive to use during class. *Attendees will be invited to the Rockbrook Camera EDU Facebook Group for continued education, conversation and community exclusive to Rockbrook Camera EDU students and instructors. It's a safe place to share, learn and grow! About Jerred Zegelis Jerred or Mr. Z, as his students fondly know him, has been a photography teacher and photographer for more than 18 years.
