FRAMINGHAM, MA — No one could've predicted the coronavirus pandemic, an event that left millions reeling due to the deaths of loved ones, job losses and other unforeseen consequences. And according to Framingham-based psychic Kristina Paige, all that loss has left many searching for a spiritual boost. Paige, 33, this week reopened the physical location of The Serendipity Place, her spiritual wellness business specializing in services like psychic readings, Reiki healing and crystals. The new venture — her second storefront in Framingham — came after she saw an increase in demand over the past year. "Sometimes it's during a lower point in people's lives, also an uncertain point," Paige said of when people seek spiritual healing. "I think that's what the pandemic was, an uncertainty for people." Born and raised in Framingham, Paige said she's felt a connection to energy in the universe at a young age. But it wasn't until she experienced the loss of a friend in 2008 that she realized she may have a psychic gift that could help others. She began educating herself about spirituality, and then started offering services to friends and family. In 2017, Paige opened the first version of The Serendipity Place in a plaza along Route 9. She continued working a second job while providing tarot card readings, Reiki — a Japanese energy healing technique — and selling crystals and jewelry. Eventually, she quit her other job to focus full time on The Serendipity Place. When Paige's lease ended in late 2019, she gave up the storefront in favor of pop-up events. Then she had to give those up when the coronavirus hit. After March 2020, she noticed an increase in traffic to her website, so she spent her pandemic months boosting her online presence to accommodate new customers. "So many people were looking for a spiritual connection," she said. That spiritual connection varies between people. During psychic readings, Paige will begin by pulling cards from a tarot deck, which is the beginning of a sort of mystic conversation that, in many cases, ends up being a morale boost. During the pandemic, she's seen a lot of people seeking advice about love and their careers especially. "Its more an opportunity to turn a negative into positive," she said. "My clients come back because they see the results of having that focus on a more positive direction." For now, The Serendipity Place is open by appointment only — mostly so Paige can focus on individual clients, whether for a reading or to help them find a particular crystal. She hopes to someday expand the business enough to hire more employees. "We want to teach people about the empowerment within themselves and how to implement it in their lives," she said.
