LONG BEACH, NY — Two Long Beach businesses were badly damaged in a morning fire. The first call came in just before 4:30 a.m. as flames shot out of 255 W. Park Ave., the Long Beach Fire Department said. The fire was brought under control within three hours, the fire department said. There were no injuries, but the building that houses Sorrentino's Italian Specialities and Abyss Tattoo was declared unsafe and will be demolished, the Long Beach Fire Department said. Adam Schneider, who lives directly behind the scene of the fire, told Patch he smelled "tons of smoke." The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office and the Nassau County Police Arson/Bomb Squad, but Long Beach fire officials said it is "not suspicious at this time." Multiple departments assisted in the emergency, including Island Park, Point Lookout-Lido, Lawrence-Cedarhurst, Woodmere and Rockville Centre. "[It's a] sad day for Long Beach," Schneider said.
