HUNTINGTON STATION, NY — Dahyana Herrera Salazar helped volunteer in Huntington Station during the coronavirus pandemic, as she helped provide food and supplies to local families in need during the outbreak. She was recognized for her efforts by Suffolk County Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Huntington Station) as part of Suffolk County Youth Week.
Over the past year, Herrera Salazar worked with the Suffolk County Police Department Second Precinct where she helped with their Community Food Distribution Project. More than 1,000 hot meals, 1,000 bags of groceries and hundreds of pieces of personal protective equipment were doled out to community members in need.
Officer Claudia Delgado of the Second Precinct nominated Herrera Salazar for being, in part, "a dedicated young lady who loves helping others."
Donnelly thanked Herrera Salazar for her efforts in what he called an important cause for Huntington Station.
"She is truly deserving of this recognition," he said.
