Warrant Issued For Brockton Man Who Violated Restraining Order

BROCKTON, MA — An arrest warrant has been issued for a Brockton man who is accused of violating a restraining order, setting fire to the victim's home, and cutting off his court-ordered GPS monitoring bracelet, said Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz in a news release. Laroy Cox, 48, is now facing three counts of Attempted Muder and one count each of Arson of a Dwelling, Malicious Destruction of Property under $1,200, and Violation of a Restraining Order. According to court records, Cox pleaded guilty in Plymouth Superior Court to Assault and Battery, Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Larceny under $1,200, Kidnapping, and Witness Intimidation. After serving approximately seven months in prison, he was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to stay away from the victim, remain drug-free and submit to random testing, attend a batterer's program, and wear a GPS monitoring bracelet. However, investigators say Cox set fire to the victim's apartment on May 21 following his trial. Probation officers tracked him to the site because he was wearing his GPS monitoring bracelet, but the charges against him allege that he later cut it off and continued contacting the victim.
