SPRINGFIELD, VA — Fairfax County Police are seeking a suspect in a double homicide of two military veterans Wednesday in the Newington Forest area of Springfield. Police responded to the 8000 block of Flint Street around 9:20 a.m. Officers arrived within two minutes of the 911 call and found two victims who had been shot in their front yard. First aid was provided to the victims. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel responded as well as pronounced the victims dead. The victims were identified as Edward McDaniel Jr., 55, and Brenda McDaniel, 63, of Springfield. Police Chief Kevin Davis said the victims were husband and wife and both distinguished military veterans. "They did nothing wrong. They were tragically and horribly murdered in their neighborhood," said Maj. Ed O'Carroll, commander of the police department's Major Crimes Bureau. "This police department, our detectives, our victim advocates, our uniformed officers on patrol are dedicated to positively closing this case with an arrest." The suspect reportedly fled from the scene in a vehicle and may be in the local area. Tips from the community led police to identify the make, model and tag information. The vehicle is described as a 2018 light colored Nissan Altima with Maryland tags 1EF1479. O'Carroll said a gun was not found on the scene, and the suspect should be considered "armed and dangerous." "We still need more information. We still need to identify this killer. We need to get him off the streets," said Davis at a Wednesday news conference. The U.S. Marshal Service has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to a suspect arrest. These were the ninth and 10th homicides of the year in Fairfax County. The investigation remains active. Anyone with information about the vehicle should call 911, according to O'Carroll.
