Inching Toward Zero? CT Coronavirus Rate Lowest Since August

CONNECTICUT — The coronavirus positivity rate dropped over a half a percentage point on Tuesday to the lowest it has been since Aug. 18. Nationally, half of the nation has had at least one dose of the vaccination against COVID-19, but only ten states have reached the Biden administration's goal to vaccinate 70 percent of their adults by July 4. Connecticut's on that list, along with Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Vermont and, as of Wednesday, Pennsylvania. An additional 88 cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in the state, bringing that total to 346,980. With 11,706 tests reported, the daily positivity rate now sits at 0.75 percent, the lowest it has been since last summer. Hospitalizations fell seven beds overnight, according to the state Department of Public Health. That brings the number of those hospitalized with the virus to 122. Coronavirus-associated deaths across the state rose by six on Tuesday. The COVID-19 death toll in Connecticut now stands at 8,227.
