MARYLAND — A judge on May 7 sentenced a Maryland man to 150 months in federal prison and three years of probation after he pleaded guilty to a bank robbery spree, officials said. Authorities alleged that 53-year-old Fletcher Dorsett of Salisbury robbed nine banks in the Baltimore-Washington area. Dorsett admitted to robbing a Baltimore City bank on July 29, 2019, the U.S. Department of Justice noted. After his arrest and release on Sept. 24, 2019, the DOJ accused Dorsett of robbing banks in: Baltimore CityBaltimore CountyPrince George's CountyWashington, D.C. Dorsett used a note threatening that he had a gun in these robberies and two other attempted ones, prosecutors added. Officials wrote that between Sept. 26, 2019 and Oct. 28, 2019, Dorsett robbed banks in: AnnapolisBaltimore CityNottinghamWashington, D.C. Authorities explained that Dorsett also attempted to rob banks in Lanham and Washington, D.C. during that timeframe. An off-duty officer who was visiting the Nottingham bank on Oct. 28, 2019 chased and detained Dorsett, the DOJ advised. The Baltimore County Police Department then arrested the accused man, a press release indicated. The prosecution informed that Dorsett admitted to robbing the additional banks. He also identified himself in bank surveillance pictures from the crime scenes, the write-up concluded. The full DOJ report is available at this link. Subscribe to your local Patch newsletter.
