BALTIMORE, MD — A Baltimore resident is the second person in Maryland to win $40,000 for getting the COVID-19 vaccine. From May 25 to July 3, the Maryland Lottery is giving away $40,000 to a Marylander who has been vaccinated. Prize money for the promotion was pulled from the Maryland Lottery's marketing fund, which was set aside for advertising, according to lottery officials. Anyone 18 and up who lives in Maryland and has been vaccinated against COVID-19 at a non-federal facility is automatically entered into the lottery. They have been randomly assigned numbers by Maryland Department of Health. Daily, the Maryland Lottery will select a winning number using a random number generator that will correspond to a person who has been vaccinated. The Maryland Department of Health, which keeps vaccination records, reaches out to the winners using the contact information they provided at the time of vaccination. Winners can remain anonymous. Federal facilities include those run by the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs, officials said. On the Fourth of July, one person will be awarded $400,000 on the VaxCash campaign's final day.
