Jeanine Taylor Folk Art invites guests to an open panel discussion focused on the health and wealth of Florida’s waterways past, present and future. An hour-long talk with award-winning author Rick Kilby, renowned landscape photographer Reg Garner and eco-advocate Frank Weaver of Central Florida Recon will be followed by a Q&A session. Panelists will discuss such topics as the relationship between Florida’s rapidly changing landscape and its impact on our local cultural identity. Kilby’s latest book Florida’s Healing Waters will be available for purchase. Reg Garner will also supply an offering of artwork from his photographic expeditions deep into Florida’s wilderness. Expect a swift call to action from Frank Weaver and for light to be shed upon Central Florida’s environmental resources. This event coincides with the closing reception of Florida Remembered – Memory Paintings by Alyne Harris. Harris’ Southern expressionist style of painting focuses on depictions of Florida’s abundant landscape, cultural traditions and growing up in the deep south. Rick Kilby: Rick Kilby is a graphic designer living in Orlando, Florida. His most recent book, Florida’s Healing Waters is a historical survey of Florida’s Victorian-era health retreats and lore surrounding the hundreds of naturally occurring springs. He is also the author of the award-winning Finding the Fountain of Youth: Ponce de Leon and Florida’s Magical Waters. Reg Garner: Reg Garner is a professional photographer with a passion for capturing the beauty of nature with his camera. He spends his free time afield, making photographs along beaches, natural springs, or deep in a swamp. His work is displayed at area hospitals, local offices, and galleries. Frank Weaver: Frank Weaver is part of the grassroots kayak waterway clean up group, Central Florida Recon. Their 12-kayak fleet is manned by a collective of volunteers on a mission to keep their beloved Florida waterways and shorelines clean of litter. The group meets weekly at one of the many lakes, rivers or springs located in Central Florida. They reclaim roughly 100 lbs of trash per week during their cleanups.
