ARNOLD, MD — Anne Arundel Community College will celebrate its graduates with a drive-by commencement ceremony on Thursday. The event will feature more than 300 students who will pick up their diploma jackets while parading across the Arnold campus. AACC employees will cheer the scholars on from several stations along the route. College officials will announce each graduate's name as they pass by. "No matter what it looks like, commencement is a highlight of the academic year," AACC President Dawn Lindsay said in a press release. "Our students and what they have accomplished this year is extraordinary. We are grateful for the opportunity to acknowledge their achievements, and excited to celebrate their hard work in a safe and creative way." The event starts at 10 a.m. The rain date is June 3. Family and friends can watch the livestream on AACC's YouTube channel. Details on the exact timing, route information, photo station and transportation assistance are posted here. AACC invited graduates from summer 2020, last fall and this spring to the commencement parade. The school held a similar ceremony, pictured above, last spring when the coronavirus pandemic first struck Anne Arundel County. About 1,985 students will graduate Thursday. They'll earn 2,381 degrees and certificates at the college's 59th graduation. Subscribe to your local Patch newsletter. Download our mobile application from the App Store or Google Play.
