AUSTIN, TX — Two Austin police officers were praised for their rescue efforts Tuesday after saving a man from a burning truck Monday evening. Officers Chandler Carrera and Eddie Pineda received a chief's coin of recognition from Assistant Chief Robin Henderson Tuesday for their "heroic effort" in saving a man's life from a vehicle fire Monday. "Please join me in recognizing these two for their quick-thinking and bravery," Henderson said in a Tweet. Chief Robin Henderson (@Chief_Henderson) May 26, 2021 Austin-Travis County EMS, police and fire crews responded to a car fire in the 1000 block of West Stassney Lane Monday afternoon. Austin Fire said the two officers were the first to arrive at the scene. Both Carrera and Pineda helped pull a man out of the truck in seconds before it was fully engulfed in flames. The video of the two officers rescuing the man was captured by a bystander, and later shared on Twitter by Austin Fire. See the video below. His condition was unknown Wednesday. "We salute our brothers in blue from @Austin_Police - Officers Chandler Carrera and Eddie Pineda- who bravely risked their own lives at this car fire yesterday just before we arrived, smashing the window and dragging the man to safety," Austin Fire Department tweeted Tuesday. On Wednesday, Chief Joseph Chacon said he was proud of the two officers brave and selfless act. "Despite the danger, they rushed in and saved a man's life," Chacon said. "...These are the guardians of our community. Thank you, officers Pineda and Carrera!"
