HOBOKEN, NJ — While a full-scale Memorial Day Parade in Hoboken will not return this year, American Legion Post 107 and other groups will still hold a parade up Washington Street this Saturday, continuing a 137-year-old tradition. "The city of Hoboken is fully supportive of the American Legion hosting their parade on Saturday," said city spokesman Vijay Chaudhuri on Wednesday, "and Mayor Bhalla applauds them for keeping this tradition alive in Hoboken." The city will resume a full Memorial Day Parade next year, Chaudhuri said. Last year, when the official event was canceled amid covid, a group of stalwarts still marched quietly. The 2021 Memorial Walk will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 29. The walk will start at City Hall at First and Washington streets and conclude at the Hoboken Elks Lodge at Tenth and Washington streets. The Memorial Walk has been held for 137 years, said Post 107 in a Facebook post on Tuesday. It's the longest continuous Memorial Day Parade in the country.
