Description
SAN CLEMENTE, CA — A Camp Pendleton brush fire ignited Wednesday afternoon but did not pose a threat to San Clemente or south Orange County, they say.
Drift smoke may be visible in the area, according to the base.
The fire began about 1:30 p.m. in an area of the base where troop training occurs.
"Due to the high volume of live-fire training and the nature of the ordnance and ammunition fired, there is the potential for vegetation fires," a statement from the Camp Pendleton website reports. "Camp Pendleton averages approximately 185 training-related vegetation fires annually."
***Smoke Advisory*** Camp Pendleton currently has a fire on their base in an impact area. Smoke may be visible, but there is no fire threat to our district at this time.— North County Fire Protection District (@NorthCountyFire) May 26, 2021
