Description
ASBURY PARK, NJ – A public hearing will be held during tonight's Asbury Park mayor & council meeting on an ordinance to establish a rent leveling board for the city.
This ordinance came as a result of a vote in April that saw voters shoot down an ordinance proposed by the Asbury Park Affordable Housing Coalition that would have seen stricter rent control to control rising rents due to the town's growing property.
The ordinance up for public hearing will create a seven-person Rent Leveling Board with two landlords and two tenants, whose job is to issue rules and regulations, supply information, assist with compliance, hear complaints, and handle any violations.
Also on the agenda for tonight's meeting is the introduction of an ordinance that would prohibit any cannabis-based businesses from opening up shop in the city.
Tonight's meeting begins at 6 p.m. and can be watched online via Zoom.
