Job Summary The Material Handler Assistant Manager leads the overall donations experience at assigned Retail Store. Responsible for leading the donation operations from point of collection to production. Works in conjunction with the Store Manager to maximize donations, production, sales, salvage and customer service. Essential Functions Assist in management of proper processing and separation of incoming donations, salvage goods and disposals. Provide ongoing training of employees in quality and sorting decisions. Deliver on expense targets. Supervise and lead the efforts of the material handling team with donation areas and transportation in partnership with the Production Assistant Manager. Assist in developing and managing employee schedules. Deliver on customer service expectations with every customer, donor and employee interaction. Assist the Store Manager in recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating and managing employees. Identify and develop employees to ensure proper succession planning for areas of responsibility. Demonstrates and educates excellent customer service skills. Maintain a good working relationship with the retail and production department leadership. Ensure proper maintenance and appearance of the entire facility, both interior and exterior, including but not limited to donations, production and sales floor. Assist Store Manager in ensuring audit standards are met. Responsible for ensuring all hazmat materials are properly handled and that staff is properly trained how to handle these materials. Uphold safe work practices in support of a safety culture through awareness and observation; assist in safety training of employees; reports any potential hazards or accidents. Ensure supplies are in stock and available to support daily operations. Consistent and safe execution of duties associated with forklift operation when certified to Seattle Goodwill standards.* Other duties as assigned. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Experience: Minimum 2 years production and/or donation experience and 1 year supervisory experience. Able to make independent decisions while following company policy. Able to work in a fast paced environment. Able to effectively teach/coach employees with multiple skill-sets, and from diverse cultural backgrounds. Specific Skills/Knowledge/Licenses: Forklift Certification required* - this training is provided by Seattle Goodwill. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Essential Physical Abilities: Must be able to: lift, and carry for short distances, up to 35 lbs., work in a dusty environment, and work under hectic and stressful conditions. Must have well-developed fine motor control and the ability to grasp, handle, finger and manipulate small and large items. Must have full range of body motion with the ability to reach above head, stoop, bend, and squat. Must be able to: perform repetitive fine motor functions with fingers, wrists and arms, without pain or loss of function. Able to travel across a wide variety of surfaces including, but not limited to, ramps, stairs, and uneven terrain. Able to use a standard telephone and wireless audio communication system; sit or stand for moderately long periods of time, communicate clearly and effectively with a wide variety of people, including those with limited English skills. Must be able to maintain reliable attendance.
