DOYLESTOWN, PA — The head of the Central Bucks School Board is out as president after the board voted 5-3 to appoint a replacement at its meeting Tuesday night.
The board voted to make Dana Hunter the new board president and John Gamble as vice president. Former President Tracy Suits, former Vice President Karen Smith and board member Jodi Schwartz were the three dissenting votes, while board member Lorraine Sciuto-Ballasy abstained from voting.
Board member Leigh Vlasblom made the motion for the new leadership, saying that a change will allow the board to work "as a more effective and efficient as a board to support our administration."
Suits' ouster comes less than two months after the district announced that Superintendent John Kopicki resigned from his position, the reasons for which were never made public. Abram Lucabaugh, the former Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education for the district, was appointed as interim superintendent while the district conducts a hiring search.
During its Tuesday meeting, board members heard from parents in the community who expressed their frustration with the district's masking policy and its reluctance to follow the advice of County Public Health Director David Damsker, who advocated for a full re-opening of schools in September.
