Deputy Delivers Baby Girl After Stopping Car For Speeding

GEAUGA COUNTY, OH — Police officers have been called to help deliver babies before, as assisting in childbirth is part of the required training in many police departments across the country. However, no one had to summon Geauga County Sheriff's Deputy Travis Goodwin, who helped a woman bring in a new life nearly a week ago. Goodwin came upon the situation on his own after stopping a car for speeding on Mayfield Road on Friday morning. "There is no such thing as a routine traffic stop, that's for sure," Goodwin told WJW. Video from Goodwin's police car that morning shows the 13-year veteran deputy walking to the car he stopped and quickly being told by the driver that a woman in the car was about to give birth at any moment, according to WJW. Moments later, after grabbing some supplies from his police cruiser, the police officer was delivering the baby with help from the woman's husband, WJW reported. "A beautiful baby girl," Goodwin told the news station.
