PORTLAND HOUSING AUTHORITY IS HIRING! DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK This is skilled work involving several trades in the repair and maintenance of buildings, equipment and grounds. Work may be performed independently without close supervision, or as part of a construction or maintenance crew. Work may be reviewed upon completion. Assignments are received either orally or in the form of written work orders. Work requires the thorough knowledge and use of all Authority tools and equipment. Work requires responsibility for operations in several recognized construction and maintenance fields. EXAMPLES OF WORK (Performs routine ground work, snow removal, trash pickup, mowing) - Performs carpentry, plumbing, electrical and mechanical repairs and upkeep to buildings, grounds and performs vacant unit turnaround work, cleaning, washing and waxing floors, refrigerator removal and install. - Performs maintenance, minor repairs, and general upkeep of all equipment and tools used to perform assigned tasks. Performs custodial work in the common space and offices. - Possesses knowledge of and ability per perform cement, concrete, and brick masonry repair work. - Performs related work as required, which may include completion of work orders, request for materials, tracking of time and material used. - Performs such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the State immediate supervisor. - REQUIREMENTS OF WORK - Possess valid State of Maine motor vehicle operator’s license. - Possess knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety precautions in construction and building maintenance. - Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, as well as elderly, and low-income tenants. - Ability to follow work plans and work independently to complete tasks. - Considerable working and technical knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in building and plant maintenance and repair work DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by maintenance courses at a vocational/technical institute. Two years of experience in the general building maintenance field, or any equivalent combination of experience and training
