In democracies, parties come and go, change and re-invent themselves. In the beginning, what is now the Republican Party (Federalists) were in your face liberals, what is now the Democratic Party (Democratic Republicans) were staunch conservatives, continuing for years to pledge allegiance to the British monarchy.
There seems to be some deep seeded need in humans to live under tyranny (to feel in control,) and also for selected individuals to rise to the role of a tyrant. Thus, great revolution globally in the 18th century and also great measures of conservative institutions to revert to older political and religious strategies.
All the petty grievances we have for one another, the bickering you see on sites like this one, individuals believing they and their kind possess the only knowledge of truth is futile, a waste of one's life. To be happy in life, realize you are powerless over government. You will not make change, no matter if your name is Donald Trump or Joe Blow. Be happy that purely by accident of birth, you and I were born into a land where prosperity and freedom of choice that has not been extended to any other people in the history of our species. Be also aware, that no matter how political you are, you are not going to change anything. Two millennium ago, a man named John tried to tell you as much: "And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed; and all the world wondered after the beast." Revelation 13.3
Yes, it is important to be patriotic. I urge everyone to vote their conscience. But a true patriot is one who lives a life of whenever/wherever possible being helpful to others. "Always be humble and kind." Tim McGraw.
