We have many Praying Mantises from a Summer Project for my sons. Keep them as pets, or release them in your garden to control the pests. Shoot me a text so we talk about the price and all you'll get for your $. For $15 you get the terrarium, complete with an organic vegetable inside, and food for the mantises. I've shopped around to find the highest quality tanks for them for this science project, and they would make a great little family project! The tanks have a variety of vegetable plants growing in them and they make beautiful terrariums. Heck I suppose you could eat the vegetables out of there too.
Mantises are generally calm, they look awesome, they put on a great show when they eat, they get to be HUGE, and they're just all around the coolest bugs in the world.
My kids aren't scared of them, they love to handle them and feed them. It's a fun family activity to take care of one of these little guys.
Mantises act like little animals, not like icky bugs. They turn their heads to look at you, they bend down to take long drinks of water when they're thirsty, and they even have unique personalities. We've had some that were friendly and would walk on our heads, and a couple that would strike at our hands when we tried to lift them.
Have a look at the pictures and drop a line if you're interested! Check out cienfuegosexotics.com where I'll be posting information about our mantises as well as the cool crops we're growing this year.
