Deckhand / Outdoor Science Educator

Children's fishing program on Cape Cod is seeking an outdoor science educator for summer 2021. Applicants must be age 21+. Previous experience working with kids preferred. Outdoor education experience, marine science, naturalist, or similar education or experience preferred. Must be comfortable working on boats. This summer job is as demanding as it is fun. The position requires long days in the sun (on the water) and an emphasis on child safety. Applicant should engage well with children and be able to hold their attention for extended periods when we are not fishing. Must be able to add an educational element to our program and engage kids (ages 8-15) with games and educational activities, as well as be comfortable doing deckhand related job tasks. Fishing experience is a plus, but not required if you wish to learn. Be willing to work hard, get your hands dirty, and enjoy working with kids. Must be comfortable spending long days on the water (on boats), have positive energy, and be reliable and dependable. A sense of humor is required. In addition to teaching kids about the marine environment, this job requires helping kids with basic fishing skills, baiting fishing hooks, interacting professionally with parents and ensuring that children are conducting themselves in a safe manner at all times. Pay rate is $25/hour. Work period is from June 28th through August 27th. Our program operates from Monday through Thursday of each week, with Friday as a rain day.
