CURED Documentary In-person Prescreening and Live Panel Discussion
CURED is the David-versus-Goliath battle that led the American Psychiatric Association to remove homosexuality from its manual of mental illnesses in 1973. As long as the medical establishment considered being LGBTQ an illness, equality would be impossible. Business and government used the mental illness label to justify discrimination. This documentary follows the people who fought for change. Join us and get to know the stories and personalities behind this civil rights movement.
CURED will be broadcast nationally in October on PBS, but you can get a sneak peak by joining this event! Join us on June 24th at 6:00pm for an early screening of CURED followed by a special live 'Thursdays with NAMI' for a panel discussion of this powerful film.
SPACE IS LIMITED. This is an in-person event. To attend virtually, register at https://naminc.org/our-work-support/thursdays-with-nami/
Trigger warning: The documentary includes material on suicide, lobotomies, conversion therapy, and other traumatic events.
