Description

Learn about bumblebee conservation and the best plants for these and other pollinators! Join biologist Gary Casabona for a Walk & Talk about ways to attract songbirds and pollinators with native plants. Gary will give an overview of the ecology of native bees, with an emphasis on bumblebee conservation. Detailed information on the best choices for native plants to benefit songbirds, pollinators, and Monarch butterfly will be discussed. Gary will also speak about funding opportunities under USDA Farm Bill programs. This event takes place at Spruce Acres Farm. Gary is a wildlife biologist with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences from Rutgers University and a master’s degree in Wildlife Biology from Virginia Tech. He worked for NRCS in New Jersey for 14 years before moving to Rhode Island in 2011 as the wildlife biologist for RI NRCS. Gary’s current activities include habitat management for New England cottontail, Saltmarsh sparrow, native pollinators, shrubland birds, wetland restoration, fish passage, and oyster restoration. Our great thanks to People's Credit Union for sponsoring our Spring 2021 "Walk & Talk" series!
