Description
BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Due to concerns about school overcrowding and other facility issues at Baltimore County Public Schools, a virtual community forum will be held May 27 and an online survey designed to gauge opinions will be available May 27-June 11. All information provided will be used to help develop BCPS in developing its Multi-Year Plan for All Schools (MYIPAS), which may include redistricting, renovation, repurposing school buildings in different ways, new construction and other endeavors.
The virtual community forum will be Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The brief survey will be available on the MYIPAS website in the following languages: Arabic, Burmese, Chinese, English, French, Nepalese, Russian, Spanish, Urdu and Vietnamese.
"Involvement from the entire community is at the heart of this collaboration to create a long-term plan for equitable, effective, and modern school facilities that will support high-quality education throughout the county for years to come," BCPS Superintendent Dr. Darryl L. Williams said.
The purpose of the MYIPAS, which is coordinated by BCPS and the Baltimore County government, is to develop a long-range plan for identifying and prioritizing capital improvements to all schools. The first phase focused on recommendations for high schools. The second phase, which is currently underway, focuses on recommendations for elementary and middle schools as well as specialty schools and centers, based on assessment findings, public surveys, focus groups and facility option development co-constructed with BCPS stakeholders and community members. Final recommendations are expected in the fall 2021.
