ROUND ROCK, TX — Round Rock Parks and Recreation has officially opened Yonders Point at Old Settler's Park. Yonders Point, which is located southwest of the baseball fields at Old Settler's, opened Friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The event included a wine tasting and hors d'oeuvres from Craft and Racked Wine Bar, live music from the Jazz Daddies and a showing of "Jumanji: The Next Level." The area will serve as a relaxing retreat within the park that includes pergolas with swings, terraced seating, a hammock area and lounges, officials said Friday. City officials said the name came as a play on the term "over yonder." The plaza was first proposed by Parks and Recreation director Rick Atkins during a City Council meeting on Oct. 20 as a way to make the area a place where families could enjoy themselves amid the pandemic. This past Friday evening was the ribbon cutting for the Grand Opening of #YondersPoint at OSP. The residents of #roundrock joined the City of Round Rock and Parks & Rec for a wonderful night with live jazz music, some extremely delicious tastings from @craftandracked.#greatparks pic.twitter.com/8GQSkHdzHr— Round Rock Parks & Rec (@roundrockpard) May 24, 2021 Atkins said the project took nine months to complete and the money spent on Yonders Point came from the Lower Colorado River Authority funding that was received as a reimbursement for the public utility running transmission lines through Round Rock parks.
