POINT PLEASANT, NJ – Robert W. Singer has represented the 30th legislative district in New Jersey's state senate since 1993. It will be the Republican incumbent against Democratic challenger Dan Stinger on Election Day. The 73-year-old Lakewood resident has served in local government in the past, giving him experience in dealing with municipal and state levels. Why are you running for office?I am running for office to voice the issues and concerns of families and residents of my district and in Trenton. What is your platform? My platform includes bringing common sense to Trenton and to voice objections concerning legislation, such as the marijuana bill, teaching sex education in kindergarten in the public schools, and other issues that directly affect families in my district. Also, there needs to be an address on the continued rise in taxes and the attack on small businesses and businesses in the state.What is the most important issue facing your constituency, and how do you plan to deal with it? There needs to be more transparency in the way government operates, and we need to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse. I am trying to expose reckless spending money, such as borrowing money that was unnecessary. I am trying to alert the public to the attacks on our local police departments. I am also trying to lessen the Governor's authority to rule by Executive Order and by ignoring the legislators' role in that. Why should voters vote for you? I feel I have the most effective legislator response office in the state. We work with families, seniors, special needs children, and the disabled. We have worked on getting vaccines for people in Ocean and Monmouth Counties. We have helped our constituents with unemployment issues and DMV issues despite that lack of cooperation from the state. Without our intervention and voice objecting to many issues, the district would just be a rubber stamp for the Governor and the Democratic control of the Legislature.
